Question How to assign public IP to my linux machine

i have one public ip address which i want to assign to my machine. Normally one ip with a subnet mask and gateway is assigned. What will be the case for public IP. I want my machine to be available to the internet

Can any one help me out??

If you only have one public IP, you either have to connect that machine direct to the Internet or use a router if you want to connect more than one machine. Did your provider assign you a static IP or is it obtained dynamically? How are you connected?
