buying a website

my question is are there any websites where you can buy a website for one fee and you have it forever, or is there another method of doing this where you get the website forever?

What do you mean? Like a website design or a website, all of it(content and all)?

You can buy templates which you can then tweek and add content to. You can have people design a template or website that fits your needs exactly(as you are telling them what you want and it isn't already made yet). Don't know about buying a whole site.

Those are just for the design/template(all the looks) and the content arena. Are you talking about the domain name, such as www.google.com or www.pcmech.com? I don't know if you can buy them for forever, but no one can just snatch it up from under you assuming you own it and you pay for it when the time comes to pay again. Some sites allow you to pay for a few years in advance, but I don't think you can do forever. Maybe I am wrong.

You can purchase a domain and most likely, you'd be able to keep it for as long as you desire given continual prompt payment of monthly fees. GoDaddy is a pretty cheap good domain name provider.

Let me make it clear that the domain name is just the name - nothing more. In the case that you are going to host your own website yourself, that would be all you would need. I recommend having it hosted by a remote location - like PowWeb or Bluehost. They guarentee a certain amount of uptime, databasing features (MySql, CGI scripting), and a certain number of your domain email addresses.

I have just started using Bluehost.com The control pannel is very easy to use. And with 10Gigs of space for $7.95/mon, you can't go wrong. They even have good customer support, when I bought my account, I received a confermation email and a call a couple hours later verifying that I bought it and asking if I had any questions. The people are friendly too.

Rather than tag on this old post, why not post over at this sticky thread that was created for that purpose.
