e-mails only
Is there an application which allows a user to have e-mail but not internet access. I believe it's done through the router access controls.

Youd have to create an extended access list, and just have the user able to permit access to port 25 (simple mail transfer although may be different) denying other services and you could have a statement to deny the user from using port 80 http

Yes, if you block port 80 on a router, you will block access to the web, while allowing other services to run. If you want to really lock things down, block every port but 25 (SMTP, for outgoing mail), 110 (POP3, incoming mail), and 143 (IMAP, another mail access protocol). Depending on how the e-mail server is set up, these ports may be different.
This is assuming that your router allows you to selectively block or allow different ports. |
