how to open .swf directly?

i have a small .swf file that i want to open directly from my desktop, but i cant find where the shockwave player is stored within windows.

it will only open thru IE6
is there a way of choosing shockwave player with the "open with" option?
if so where can i find macromedia shockwave player on my system?

A .swf file is not Shockwave - it's Flash. The Flash player is strictly a browser plugin.

If you install the plugin for IrfanView, it will open some of them.

I think I heard that Flash MX (the actual designing program for flash movies), has a standalone flash player which you can use to preview and play movies. Not sure if you can get it seperately or not.

yes Glc's right, i wanted to avoid having all the usual internet explorer buttons and stuff when i opened the file, so was hoping flash would act like a kind of java applet and purely open the graphic/animation without the IE border etc.
ill continue searching and try irfanview but not hyper important, just wondered if its one of those easy fixes that come along every so often.

thanks for reply's btw
