IE6 Freezes
I know the IE6 freeze problem has already been discussed quite a lot in the forum, but i've read thru the different threads and none seems to be discussing the exact problem i have.
I have a Dell laptop running Windows XP SP2 with Internet Explorer 6.02, both pre-installed, the computer was running smoothly for 6 months or more until last month i have been noticing that sometimes IE freezes for a few seconds, maximum 10-15 seconds. This happens while scrolling thru the browsed page and sometimes without scrolling i think. it is not related to the page being downloaded, or an link being clicked. It freezes one instance of IE while other pages on other intances and acting normally. I have had McAfee Security Suite the first 3 months and then I have had Norton antivirus 2005 with internet worm protection enabled since McAfee expired. Both Windows and IE6 as well as Norton Antivirus are updated usinf their auto-update features. I connect thru ADSL thru a Linksys ethernet modem and a D-Link wireless router. Any ideas? |

Both of you - that is NOT an appropriate response in these forums. Knock it off. If you have no suggestion how to fix IE, say nothing.
- Moderator - Try disabling or uninstalling Norton for troubleshooting purposes. It has been known to cause all kinds of strange issues. |

I'd suggest you take a pass on McAfee too. The only "all in one" security suite I recommend is Trend Micro, but I use free individual alternatives.
You should be fine with AVG antivirus and the XP SP2 firewall. Your router is a hardware firewall. |

A router is a firewall due to the nature of network address translation. There is additional packet inspection firewalling in some routers, which the XP SP2 firewall does anyway.

Thanks guys for your advice.
IE is working fine now with AVG running smoothly in the background. Regarding the Linux and Firefox issue, some people are just enthusiastic for them that they can't stop themsleves from mentioning them in every possible instance, like I'm for Internet Explorer over Netscape. Anyway, thanks. |
