Digital Phone....How Do I Send a Fax?

I recently got digital phone service from Time Warner. I don't really like it, but it seems as though it messed up my fax machine. Is there any software (preferablly free) that would let me send documents to fax machines? I do have a computer with a fax modem, but I think that would run into the same problem as the fax machine. As a last resort, is there any fax machine that can be used with a digital phone line, or am I going to have to get another line?

Fax machines and dialup modems are not compatible with digital phone lines unless there's an analog data port on the digital phone system's control box or phone.

There are Internet fax services, but none are free for sending, only receiving (the faxes are sent to your e-mail).
