i usually stick with linksys, dlink, and netgear products, they have all worked really well for me. i would say look on www.newegg.com for the best deals on wireless cards.

Right, just install the wireless card and the laptop should detect the wireless networks that are available. Make sure you have a good firewall running.

Wireless Connection and Laptop
I'm relatively new to using my laptop with my wireless card, but here goes. I have a Linksys Wireless-G 2.4GHZ card and a Knaguru Wireless LAN USB adaptor. Yesterday, my laptop and I went to a wi-fi coffee house (you can do a search to find local area wi-fi hotspots) and started with my wireless card. It connected, but kept disconnecting. I kept doing the repair and then removed it and switched to my Kanguru USB adaptor (came with mini-CD with drivers). Anyway, it worked and I had no problems. In Chicago, all of the Public Libraries have wireless access, and as I mentioned, I've located numerous coffee houses, Panera Bread, and other hotspots. Starbucks and Borders use T-mobile which seems to require purchasing a one-day pass for $9.99, although a vendor/technician that we use at my school tells me you can tap into their router for free. But I don't think so.
