Hello,
I was wondering how to paste a screenshot onto a message board. I've downloaded a capture program, SWBCapture which allows me to capture in JPEG or GIF ect, now how do I transfer this to a message board. Thanks. ps. if there's a better capture program could you post a link as well, thank you. |

Screenshot ability is built in to Windows, so uninstall that cumbersome program.
When you see the screen you want, just hit the PrintScreen button on your keyboard, that will copy the ENTIRE contents of the screen to your clipboard. If you ONLY want to capture the ACTIVE WINDOW, hold down the ALT button, then hit Printscreen. Open your favorite graphic program (paintshop, Irfanview, whatever), and paste it in (CTRL+V). You can now edit for size, change it's format (from .bmp to .gif or whatever). Once you've saved it on your HD, you need space on the web to post it. Your ISP probably gave you a little room (3-5megabytes) when you signed up, so just use that. A good FTP program is needed next. There's a great free one, called SmartFTP. Get it at http://www.smartftp.com/download.html Check with your ISP if you don't know how to use FTP to your webspace. Upload the picture via FTP, then post a link to it in the forums. The FAQ at http://forum.pcmech.com/misc.php?action=faq will explain how to link to your picture here. |

What's your ISP up there?
I can probably find out the FTP settings you need (unless you've got it figured already). Once you've got those, it's simply a matter of getting the pic down to it's smallest byte size (while retaining enough quality), then uploading it. What graphics prog do you use? |

I'm on cable through Shaw@Home. I was wondering, from your explanation, once the screen is transfered am I just providing a link to it on the board? I was looking to post like this (heh, not the link but the actual post)
http://www.stockhouse.ca/bullboards/...xchange=Nasdaq I'd imagine it's the same process to post charts like in the example above, as it would be for a screen shot too right? Thanks. oh graphics program, I had Paintshop Pro but just the demo, expired now. I'll have to find another or $'s. |

OK, for Shaw@home, your FTP site address is "members.home.com" with your usual username and password.
If your username is "jsndean", then your webiste is at http://members.home.com/jnsdean/ or you can also use http://members.home.net/jnsdean/ To post a graphic on the board, you would include the proper tags (as explained in the FAQ), and link the picture thus: http://members.home.com/jnsdean/mypicture.gif (Of course these links don't work, because you don't have it set up yet). For graphics, go get IrFanView it's FREE! OK, did some figuring. I found an account with @home to show you: Get your picture uploaded to your account, then link thus: < img src="http://members.home.com/dandeacon/Image1.gif" > It shows up like this: ![]() Of course you have to substitute YOUR username. Reboot that's perfect. I've dl'd the FTP and IrFanView, I'll find my address, get aquainted with these new programs, and looks like I'm good to go. One last question, in your example, there isn't any space between the < and img, and at the end no space between Image1.gif" and >, right or no? Thanks.

There would normally be no space between the < and the http, or the .gif" and the >, but I had to put it in to show the code for you.

That's what I figured but just wanted to be sure, thanks so much for you time! I'm liking the graphic program, very simple but it's just what I need for what I'm doing right now. I also checked your site, looks like a lot of goodies there too! Thanks again Reboot, if (when) I run into a problem I'll come find you.
Cheers.

Here's another way...
Go to http://www.zing.com/ and open a free account there. You need to have cookies enabled for Zing to work. Load your picture files into an album there. Then after they're loaded go to your albums list and click on the correct album you want. Then when the thumbnails appear click on the one you want to put into your message so that the larger picture appears on screen. Then click on it again to get the original photo to open in a new window. The original will be set against a white background. I say that because sometimes the first picture enlargement shown is smaller than the original for some reason. Then right click on the picture. Scroll down to properties and click on it. When the properties screen pops up highlight and then right click and copy the complete url address of that picture. Then on this board or any other that supports vb or UBB code, paste that url address in between the "IMG" codes shown at the link below under the "Adding Images" section using NO SPACES BETWEEN THE CODES. http://forums.techguy.org/index.php?action=bbcode Don't use spaces between the codes and url address or the picture won't appear, just a link will. You could also copy and paste the url addresses of your pics into a Notepad file for later reference. |

Just an update:
Zing is closing so to do it my way you would have to use another site to store and host pics such as Ofoto. http://www.ofoto.com/Welcome.jsp |
