browsing creates lots of new web pages

This problem suddenly appeared last night. When I click on a hyperlink, or try to look at email, it opens into a new web page, instead of replacing the first page. This is making it difficult to browse, since I'm winding up with lots of pages that I have to close, and I can't use the back button the way I usually do. I don't know if I accidentally hit a key combo, but can't figure out how to change it back. I have XP Home.

Any suggestions? I know this may have a simple answer, but I can't find it.

*One other thing--I have also noticed that when I try to select an item, several other items are getting selected--I hope it's not connected to the page loading problem.

Open up "my computer" > tools > folder options. Make sure "open each folder in the same window" is selected.

It worked

thnx computer slayer--it was already selected, but I clicked on the default button and then apply to enforce it, since "open in the same page" is the default. that seems to have done it.
