NETSCAPE (won't view entire page)

I'm not that familiar with NS, nor desire to be, but have a problem viewing a certain page. The below link comes up fine with MSIE, but with NS only the title section comes up, along with the purple hearts. Rest of page is blank. Perhaps you can help, as many folks have e-mailed me back describing above. I proved it myself with wifey's NS.

Sarge, Netscape is not quite as forgiving as IE. If you make a mistake in Netscape, then by golly you are going to pay for it. The main problem is that table cells td will collapse in Netscape if they are not filled with something. A couple of tricks that you can use: One is to add a nbsp; in the tag to keep it from collapsing. The other trick is to create a 1-pixel x 1-pixel clear.gif that you can use as a spacer.

Here is an example from your source code:
<TD ALIGN><CENTER></TD>
It should be something like this:
<TD Align="center">&nbsp;</TD>

Notice how the code has changed a bit with the align="center" inside the bracket and the addition of the nbsp. Another thing that you could do to make this easier is to use <TR ALIGN="center"> , instead of using it in every table cell.

I'm not developing the page (if that's what you're referring to). It's just a web page I found and tried to view with NS. As stated earlier, everyone so far has same problem, but not with MSIE.

For what it's worth, it looks fine in Opera.

Downloading Opera now. Netscape's been acting up lately, and don't feel like reinstalling, and I won't use IE. Never tried Opera, is it faster than IE and NS?

Opera, if you can stand the ads is okay. It is somewhere between IE and Netscape. It does some funny stuff sometimes and it likes good clean HTML.

Sarge, sorry, I thought you had actually built the page so I was being kind. It was one of the worst examples of HTML coding that I have ever seen. But the reason that the page doesn't view properly in Netscape is because of the collapsing cells. Nothing you can do about it other than email the webmaster of that site and tell him your NS problems. Go ahead and email him the solution also.

Cool

Actually Sarge, if you want to pass it on to the site the explanation is quite simple and common. The author of this page didn't use the close table tag "/table", IE assume that it is closed but NS requires the tag.

Thanks for the help, mhayes and mairving. I forwarded the info to the webmaster and he's on it. In my opinion, Opera stinks, and I can't stand NS. I found another browser (besides MSIE) I like better than the above.

I ain't fixing to start another debate; I'd be out numbered anyway, which has never bothered me. I'm just glad I have choices. No, it isn't Neoplanet, which is only MSIE in drag.
