Internet connection lost when 2nd modem installed

today, while i was at school my mother "supervised" the the instatllation of a second internet line to my room, my computer works fine on it, but after the installers left she couldnt access the internet on her computer, the first line we had, they are not sharing internet and not on a network together, i cant ping out of her computer, 'host not responind' or sumthing along those lines, status of the network details that packages are both recieved and sent yet i cannot access the internet. Please help, anyone no how to fix this without having to wait a week for the internet company to come and fix it.

Just to claify, you have two separate cables coming into your house and each one is connected to it's own modem?

its off the cablevision wire to our house, from there i assume it splits to each computer, but yes, each has its own modem

I guess if you want to pay double for two lines, that's your business. You can share the single line for internet access without allowing access to each other's computers. Plus you don't have to set up a network. Anyway, back to your problem. If you have two modems and the original now won't connect, I'd call the cable company back out and have them fix it. Sounds like they have something connected wrong in the feed to the house.

my rents dont care bout paying for a second line, this provider also charges a bit to share the connection, so we went with the 2nd line, probly could have used a router and done it myself, but too late now, i did give a call to the provider and they are coming out tomorrow to fix it, thank you
