Persistent Spyware! Disable IE?!

I have a really annoying Spyware problem, where i get IE pop-ups at any time that i am using the computer, be it watching a DVD, browsing the Internet (with Firefox as I have done for over a year now), playing games etc. etc.
No software i have used so far (AdAware and Spybot) has picked up the problem(they've picked up others though) and the problem won't go away. I have also done a full system scan with Norton AntiVirus in case there is a program out there that Symantec know of......but NOTHING.

As I only use Firefox for browsing, and im sick of scanning for Spyware is it possible to just disable Internet Explorer from functioning at all so that it can't even pop-up?

Regards,

Thomas.

Ahh, self-reinstalling and/or stealthed malware.
Go over to the security forum and follow the instructions for posting a Hijack this log.
This is one of those "dig it out manually" problems the automated scanners have a problem with this stuff.
Unfortunately, other than removing it as your default browser you can't really get rid of IE. Also, there are programs that, if your patching for IE security holes isn't up to date, will install themselves anyway even if IE isn't the default.

Can't disable MS Internet Explorer without crippling the functionality of MS Windows. As well, you need it for Windows Update - an MSIE only thing.

The most annoying part is that they're ads for spyware! One even says: "Are you experiencing incessant pop-ups". They should be jailed. Bring back the old days of Norton Anti-Virus where new programs couldnt run without being certified first, much like today's firewalls. But instead Symantec opted to run a subscription service and a removal tool. PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN A CURE!

spybot teatimer, MS antispyware and Kerio firewall all do more or less the same thing, but with less overhead than norton products.

I've heard about this.
It's a stealth download and then they offer to sell you the removal tool.
Our state General Attorneys have gone after them and, last I read, Australia had some very useful consumer protection laws.
File a complaint and help make life difficult for these bozos.

not true, u can get rid of it w/o crippling windows or losing any functions .. as for windows update, cant u just use the auto-update thing that pops up in the system tray?
