Lightbulb Can view some sites and not others?

I have a friend who is able to search google, and visit some sites etc. But when it comes to signing in to hotmail, and purchasing stuff on Amazon, he can't view some pages. I'm stupified. I told him it was a virus or 2 or 3. Anyone have any suggestions? He's running XP Pro, SP2, and 512 Ram, 2.0 gig proc. 80 gb hdd I think. Anyway, is it cookies? Internet settings?

You might look at this MS KB Article. The common denominator is that they are both secure SSL (https sites. I would clear the cache first and then work down the list if that doesn't work.
