firefox -adblock
i have had ff running with adblock for several months and i still get a lot of ad's , i can r click and get rid of them but others replace them , i just installed Maxthon for a try and noticed that it automatically stops ads and banners with no effort on my part, am i missing something in ff adblock? i think ff is faster and i really like it but i also like the adblocker in Maxthon better.

How are you entering the adblock entries for ff? Are you using adequate wildcards? It stands to reason that maxthon's adblock has a few built in filters to get you started, but the method of blocking the ads is pretty much the same. There is no popular browser out there that will be default know or want to turn off every ad out there. The power of adblock is in being able to use wildcards or mere flash overlays. Other than that there are further ad filtering abilities on firefox for example: http://www.mozilla.org/support/firefox/adblock.html
There are also sites that will give you adblock filters that you can import in as well, however I dont usually recommend it. Also, just wanted to give you a headsup since you are using FF and adblock... it may or maynot apply to you. You might've got a message for flash update from Macromedia. It's a major update, but after you install it, you may see that FF does not display any flash files. This only happens if your adblock is set to display that little Adblock logo at the corner of flash files. To correct the issue, go to Tools > Adblock > Preference (shortcut is CTRL+Shift+P) > Adblock Options > and uncheck the Obj-Tabs |

Try this out:
Say you get an ad from http://ads2.adserver.com/advertisements/blahblah/helloworld/foo/bar/ads.swf that is really bugging you; click on it to block or click on the adblock link from the bottom right. Now instead of blocking the above block http://*.adserver.com/* so for the next site that has ads from http://ads43.adserver.com/popups/ads/bar/foo/ads2.swf the content is already blocked out. That way you dont have to put in a block for each individual ad. As I said, you dont need to wait for the adblock link; if there is a site that you go to regularly and want to be able to block it out, just press CTRL+Shift+P and adblock will open up; just scroll down to what looks like an ad and kill it with the wildcard. It gets even more powerful when you want to get rid of those annoying green text ads; if you were to add http://*intellitext.com/* nearly every site that uses intellitext for those ads get nuked. Remember that there are really a very finite number of ad companies that most people will run into on a generic web surfing day; a few uses of using wildcards have nearly eliminated nearly all ads from my day. Also, if you aren't aware - if there is a flash that is just an eyesore but you dont want to adblock it for whatever reason, just hit CTRL+SHIFT+F and all flash get covered up neatly. A browser is a pretty personal thing, but my experience with Maxthon hasn't justified keeping itself for remaining on my machine. It's the exact same IE engine with additional bells and whistles (most of which will be in IE7 anyway); I find IE faster than Maxthon and Mathon for its part slower than FF.
