Question previous search drop downs

Hey, you know when you go to type something into a search bar and with your first key stroke, a whole bunch of previous searches drops down to give you a choice of a previous search before you type the whole word or words into the bar? Even when I started to type the question into the bar for this thread, the letter 'p' ignited a list of previous searches that began with the letter 'p'. It's basically prevalent on nearly every search bar from MSN to Craigs List and PC Mechanic. How do I erase or stop those drop down lists?

PS I have XP Pro on an Intel system.

Are you using IE?
If so you need to turn off autocomplete... http://www.andyrathbone.com/tips/autocomplete.html will tell you how.
