Which Browser?

Hello everybody.

I am going to be reformatting my computer in a few days and I am wondering which browser is the best. I have been trying firefox, opera, and maxthon.

Firefox always gives me "document contains no data" which constantly annoys me.
Opera does not appear to be compatable with very many sites.
And Maxthon is just confusing as heck.

Any input you have is greatly appreciated.

Thanks Alot

Andy

I am currently using FF, others will praise it, but I still am an opera fan.
I turned to FF because of one major problem with opera - it made m pc restart when exiting it - and this hasn't happened to anyone else.
Here is a small review I wrote about Opera you might be interested in

Thanks for the quick reply guys.

ryan, thanks for the review of Opera. I do enjoy it but for some sites it says that Opera is not one of the compatible internet services, and I was wondering if that was like a security error or something.

Dark Nova, have you ever experienced the "document contains no data" problem that plagues me? I can try to refresh a site 10 times and keep getting that it contains no data, then go to opera and it will work first try.

What extensions are using?
What makes FF nice is noscript, adblock, and FasterFox... Perhaps an extension is blocking a page for you.

I dont think it could be that because it usually happens on sites I view alot. Like random pages just don't load and i get the error. And right now I have no extensions installed.

Teacher... glc stole my answer!

Why can you only have one installed? They don't conflict with eachother, so why not have them all on there. I personally use and prefer Firefox, but that doesn't mean you will.

If the question is which browser should you use? Can't tell you .. you have to find what works for your browsing habits, for your ease of navigation, your frequently used sites etc etc etc. Nobody here can give you a definitive answer for that.
What am I using? I'm using Firefox extensively right now because I like the UI, the features and the exensions and themes. When IE7 goes out of beta, I will re-evaluate my choices again based on what's available out there.

Yeah, install them all and use each one to find out which one you like best. I have FireFox, Opera, Maxthon and IE installed on my computers. Been using Opera the most lately but I still use the others.

I use IE, only one I've had installed on this... I tried Firefox on someone else's computer, but have been too lazy to do it myself. Obviously a job for next year

Well, I actually use Avant Browser on this PC (It is AWESOME!) And I have Opera on my 133Mhz IBM Thinkpad Laptop. Opera is amazing for slower computers, but firefox or avant browser are awesome for a faster PC.

I use FF and IE. Tried Opera and Maxthon, both had some gard I didn't use. I like firefox because the UI is so customizable and of course the extensions.

Thanks for all of the replies guys.

Thebranded - I had the newest version, but when i go to a few sites (ebgames.com and usbank.com online) i get a message that pops up that says "This browser is not compatible with our site, please use another one".

And for FF themes, how do you install them? I go to the theme part and get new themes and I click on the download now but it doesn't do anything.

Make sure the Theme you choose is compatable with your version of FF. You also have to restart FF for the Theme to take effect.

I run IE, FF, and Opera. I use opera primarily for my web browsing. The other two I use for tech support and web design testing.

I use IE for small-scale browsing and Maxthon when I need more than a few sites open. I actually like the fact that it's never crashed on me, even with several dozen tabbed pages open in the same browser window. Well, I remember it crashed once, but when I openned it back it reopenned all my pages automatically.

I've been using Firefox for about a year now with no major issues. Realistically, If you keep up to date with all of the security patches from MS and protect yourself with firewall, anti-virus and anti-spyware, you can use Internet Explorer with no issues as well.

I use IE and firefox about 50/50.

IMO, opera is better out of the box (a lot of FF extension featues in there by default).. less resources sort of thing too.. but when configured fully with the best extensions etc FF is better in some ways.. haven't tried 1.5 either so it may be better with regards to memory etc.
althou new featues like draggable tabs have already been around in opera for a while.

"If you keep up to date with all of the security patches from MS and protect yourself with firewall, anti-virus and anti-spyware, you can use Internet Explorer with no issues as well."
doesn't have many good (ie better than others) features thou to make you want to use it either do u not think? other than the fact its already there. when u use opera/FF for an extended period of time then u start to rely on certain featues which IE just doesn't offer yet. things will change a lot with ie7 thou.

Been using Firefox since it was Firebird. Got hooked on it and now I only use IE when I need to (Windows Update), or if the site requires it. Updating to 1.5 the other day and like it just as much, if not more. For me it's the perfect browser. I tried a couple different versions of Opera, but never liked it as much.

FF gains more points with the addition of the AdBlock Plus extension... I love it. I also like RIP to permanently remove frames and the carp I don't want to see on a webpage...
