SMTP Server has not responded

When I try to send a link from within IE6 with Send link by e-mail the SMTP server does not respond and the wait or stop box comes up. This is every time I try it. Then if I close IE and open up OE the e-mail is there waiting to be sent and when I hit send/receive it ALWAYS works and sends it out. What do I need to adjust?
thanks,
Alan

Just a guess - are you using something like AVG for your antivirus with the personal e-mail scanner active for both incoming and outgoing mail?

thanks for responding GLC,
not using AVG, McAfee Enterprise 8 on the machine with the SMTP problem.

strange that you should mention AVG cause it is causing me much heartburn when i put it (for free of course) on fresh reinstalls of customers' computers. my main problem there is when you install AVG and update it on my lan it sets lan as the source and, if dialup is not installed, there it sits on lan. i hate it and used to love it and reccomend it. now the email scanner is not fully functional nonsense is also something that has happened with the latest updated engine. hate that also.
ok,
so much for AVG.
Still don't know what is causing the SMTP not to work from within Internet Explorer.
