Thunderbird/Firefox export

I have a friend whom is getting a new system and wants to save Firefox bookmarks and Thunderbird address list from the current machine to install on the new.

Is there an easy way to do this?

Thanks for your help

Mozbackup : http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com/

A great utility that saves everything.
Just burn the whole thing to disk and transfer it to the new computer (remember to install the program on the new computer as well).

Thanks pam123

I tried to do this for my friend but was advised that she is not authorized to do this. She is listed as an Administrator and has other admins on her pc.

Any suggestions

For the bookmarks, just do a search for bookmarks.html on your computer. The most recently updated file should be it; since it is just an HTML file, you can always open it up and check. Or you can export them manually by going to Manage Bookmarks.

For the Address Book, I think you can export that manually as well, under Tools...Export

Same advice about bookmarks.
For the address book first select it then go to tools and click on Export.
You may need to remove the write protection from the files so burn 2 copies, one with one without, for both bookmarks and the address book.
I know it was a problem at one time but I don't know if it is now.

I was able to get to the "export" feature in both programs, however when I attempted to do the export to a CD, I got the message that she was not authorized, and to see system administrator. Same when trying to do a copy.

She is listed as on of three system administrators, Her son, and daughter are the
other two. They have passworded administor settings. My friend is listed as an
administrator but has no password.

Are we doomed to hard copy and manual re entry?

What program are you using to burn the CD?

Ah, good question doctor. To be honest with you, I don't know.
I clicked on "export" and just selected the "D" drive where a formatted CD was installed, and then got the failure message.

This lady lives 70 miles from me, so I'll have to call her and see if she knows. I
am guessing that she does not know, as her son in law set up the system for
her.

It may not like directly exporting to the CD. I never try to write directly to a CD, I will export the files first to somewhere on the C drive, then open up Nero or Roxio and burn the CD from there.

As things stand now she doesn't have administrative privilege.
Call son or daughter and get their password(s) and grab her files, either by exporting to disk or using Mozbackup and burn them.
The kid(s) can change their password(s) later if it bothers them.
