Question explorer.exe

hi all,
win98 pc using IE 5.0 version 1.10
Have noticed explorer.exe runs by itself for every minute of inactivity. Any one has any idea how to control this monster ?

I was able to know because I'm running wingate. ( I know.......wingate is......)

Explorer.exe is your shell - it HAS to run.

It's giving me a headache, as it keeps on triggering my 'wingate keeper' which would bug me for a username and password. Alas..actually I thought it was internet explorer.exe , guess I'm still not recovered from my flu.

Thanks !

You have something else looking for an internet connection - check your startup carefully (critical update notification, auto live update, Real Player, Winamp agent, something like that) - or a Trojan virus.

Open the RUN box and type MSCONFIG. Look on the STARTUP tab. Everything that is checked is starting with Windows, and a good portion of those are unnecessary. If you uncheck something that prevents Windows from starting, you can boot into safe mode and put it back. Read what's starting and use logical deduction, and uncheck stuff until the problem goes away.

Go to http://housecall.antivirus.com and do an online virus scan.
