Firefox Memory Leak?
Yeah, this is wierd, Firefox seems to have a memory leak, that after about 1.3 hours, it will have gone from ~22 mb RAM to ~220 mb. This also starts causing unresponsiveness, and the feeling of the tabs being 'sticky' once it hits about 150 mb. Anyway, it results in a total freeze up of the browser, which I have to kill with task manager. Any help?

What version? I havent noticed it at all. It could likely be a plugin or extension that you're using that's causing it. Have you tried firefox in safemode to see if it still does it?

Latest. I check for updates about every week.
Extensions: Dom Inspector Talkback Gmail Notifier IE Tab Fasterfox Flashgot Tabbrowser Preferences Adblock No, I haven't tried safe mode. Will try tommorow morning when I'm on for a while. Trying now. I've been on in safe mode for the past 20 minuites or so, and Firefox has gained about 30 MB that it's not releasing. It seems to allocate memory faster when more pages are loading. In the morning, when I'm really going hard, I often have over 30 pages loading simultaneously. Last edited by Kulag; 12-13-2005 at 06:20 PM. |

As of this morning, 2 crashes. I checked a bit, and after only 30 minuites, Firefox had gained about 150 MB. BTW, in case you missed it, check above post.

I've experienced FireFox consuming a large amount of CPU (30-60%) when only a few tabs are open. I have concluded it happens when there are a few animated graphics/ads on pages. I don't know if this has anything to do with your problem... does it happen if you just let it sit on a page with no animations?

If I let it sit anywhere, it slowly releases memory. VERY slowly though, so it's easier to close, then restart. I upgraded to Deer Park Alpha 2 (1.6a1) and for the past 1.5 hrs I've been going steady. Memory usage is only around 50 MB, so I think for now the problem is solved.
Edit: Problem not solved. Firefox is still leaking memory, though it isn't allocating it as fast when nothing is happening. Last edited by Kulag; 12-15-2005 at 05:30 AM. |
