Cool Delete address bar drop down links.

Thanks, Cricket, for sending me to the correct forum.
Here is my question; I just realized that, seemingly, every web site that I visit creates a link in the address bar of my computer. I have what looks like thousands of web address links and thier related files stored in my computer. I tried arrowing down and deleting, like I do to erase a search drop down option, but nothing goes away. So, how do I erase, delete, eliminate all these web links that are stored in my address drop down list?

I have a P4 with XP Pro and IE. Ryan suggested going to tools/ internet options/advanced tab/ and disable the enable auto complete.

I couldn't find the enable auto complete under the advanced tab but I found one under the content tab and disabled it but with no success in eliminating all the addresses/links that are stored on my computer. Am I missing something (usually the case)?

Autocomplete has to do with form completion, such as clicking the Autocomplete can automatically fill in forms that ask for name, address, phone number, etc, without you typing at all.

What you are wanting to do is this:

Tools>Internet Options

Click on "Clear History"

If you want a complete clear, also Delete Files... and Delete Cookies...

Thank you, IntegraGSR

But, I tried that, too. Yet all those addresses/links sit in the drop down of my address bar. Let me re-emphasize that these are not in the search drop down windows, but in the main address bar drop down lists.

Any other ideas or am I doing something wrong?

Well that's odd, mine clears the dropdown every time. Perhaps your history folder is read-only somehow.

I just noticed that a google's worth of those that were stored beyond the intial 30 or so are gone. For that, mission accomplished. Now, to the 30 or so that remain. Is there a setting that allows me to adjust the number of addresses that are saved in the main drop down list?

Try Tools>Internet options>Content>Auto Complete> Then clear all forms and passwords. See If that does the trick

You can change the number of days that addresses are stored right next to the clear history button. When I used IE I kept it at 1 day.
