No IE Icons-unknown icon instead.
Greetings,
I know that you can customize the icons used for shortcuts to programs by right-clicking the shortcut, and choosing Properties, then the Shortcut tab and click the Change Icon button to choose a different icon. The problem that I am having is that the IE default icon is not appearing on my Desktop each time that I save a favorites to my Desktop or to a folder. The icon that does appear is the icon used for "programs unknown". I would like to reset all of these "unknown program" icons back to the default IE icon without having to right click each and every shortcut that needs to be changed back to the default IE icon... And each time that I save a favorites to the Desktop I want it to automatically save as the default IE icon. Your Assistance is GREATLY Appreciated... |

Open up My Computer then go to TOOLS menu > Folder Options > File Types tab > select
Extension: (NONE) File Types: Internet Shortcut and click the Advanced button > If you dont see the correct icon displayed click the Change Icon button and enter C:\WINDOWS\system32\url.dll for the icon location (assuming that your Windows is installed to C:\Windows Click OK twice Scroll down the list of file types and till you see : Extension: URL Filetype: Internet Shortcut and do the same. That should take care of the icons for URL shortcuts. If you still cannot see the icons (even after rebooting), then it is possible that your Icon Cache is corrupt and you may need to manually delete it and it will get recreated automatically. Follow the directions here: http://www.windowsnetworking.com/kba...IconCache.html |
