I'll try this again. I can't get ie to save my password and
connect automatically. I just changed isp's and the old one did it for you. I'm running win 98. I had ie 5 and tried upgrading to ie 5.5 but that didn't help. Also tried internet options\ connections\settings, I enter my password then click ok, and when I go back the password field is blank again. Thanks for any help. |

Do you just open IE and then let it attempt to dial? Just create a Dial Up connection and that'll save your pass. Then set IE to use that connection if there is no connection present.

HackinCowboy, I tried to reply last night but we had a
power outage in the middle of it. After I read your post, I removed my dial-up account, and then reinstalled it using connection wizard. When I ran it automatically, I got a message saying, password caching has been disabled, contact your network administrator. This used to be an office computer, but I was able to configure it manually, but it still won't save the password and connect automatically. Any ideas? Thanks mac_3 |

Sounds like PolEdit has disabled your caching. You could try editing the registry entry. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Network\DisablePwdCaching
In that folder there should be a DisablePwdCaching and the data should read 0x00000001 (0). Change it to 0x00000001 (1) That should enable PW caching. |

Cowboy, I checked the registry and the value for that was already set to (1). Do you know of any other entries I can check? Also, do you know the command for checking your network setup, Start\Run\Blah,Blah,Blah, I ran acrossed it a while back, but can't remember it now. Thanks alot.

courto, that was the link I was looking for! But I found the answer right before I read your post. HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Network\DisablePwdCaching change from (1) to (0). Hope I didn't wreck anything else in the process. I'm so darn proud of myself. Gotta go pat myself on the back again, Thanks everyone.

I appoligize to hackincowboy, I had so many paths printed out
here, I forgot which one came from where! Didn't bother to scroll back up. What I actually had to do was reinstall IE and then change the value to (0). Really feel like an idiot. mac_22 (alot shorter today) |
