Microsoft Outlook - Sharing & Networking

I have been a long-time Outlook Express user in our business. We have now got to the point where we have a few staff on board all requiring access to their own email address.

What I would like to know....can outlook (not express) have a main inbok that everyone can share (ie. read, write etc. on the same inbox simultaniously from different PC's)?

I would like a main inbox that catches all addresses (as well as each user receiving their own messages) so that admin can review and print/file/delete each message that comes in.

Can Outlook handle this?

If so, how does it network? We dont have a main fileserver or domain controller, just 4 machines that network via an ADSL router using a simple workgroup. All are running Windows XP. I would intend on having one of the machines acting as a host (to also host Filemaker) if Outlook works that way. Does Outlook store messages in one whopping big file, or seperate files for each message?

I would greatly appreciate any help from anybody.

Cheers.....Nickuss

Tom, Jane, Betty and you could each have an email account. You could add a "common" email account to each machine and use the "leave mail on server" option. Both Outlook and O Express can handel this...

Other option is to spend a fortune and get an exchange server...

Or you could spend a bit less of a fortune and get Open-Xchange which includes virus and spam protection.

What about a Mercury server (free)?

www.pmail.com

Outlook stores everything in one whopping .pst file. It's not like OE where each folder is its own .dbx file.

Thank you everybody for replying.

I have chosen to just go with each person having there own address on each machine and not worrying about sharing a central box.

We now have 5 staff which will probably increase in a few months...so when the time comes we might actually look at getting a Windows server with exchange. We can also then run a central fileserver as well as having our own in-house web server. Our needs a small so I think the one server could handle all the tasks ok?

Thank you again.
