firefox help

Ok, call me brain damaged but I keep getting "software installation is currently disabled. Click edit options... to enable it and try again", I have searched thru every option and cannot find how to allow software to be installed.

I am running Firefox v1.5.0.1

Did you see in tools>Options> "Web Features" , the little box that should be checked to allow web sites to install software.. Careful though cause this one is I believe not checked by default because of the risk if you allow it. I would probably allow it for my current need and after it is done uncheck it..

actually no...

open options, tabs across the top
1) General
2) Privacy
a) history
b) saved forms
c)passwords
d) download history
e) cookies
f) cache
3) Content
a) block pop ups
b) Warn me about extensions (checked and unchecked this, added the site I
to allow, nothing happens...including a complete shutdown of the browser
restarting)
c) load images
d) Enable java
e) Enable Javascript
4) Tabs
5) downloads (this all revolves around where I want them saved and the like)
6) advanced

I found this : How do I enable software installation?

Software installation is enabled by default. In Firefox versions 1.0.7 and earlier (and Thunderbird) there is a preference in the options menu to enable or disable software installation.

In Firefox 1.5 this preference still exists, but it is now accessed through about:config. Find xpinstall.enabled and set it to true by double clicking on it or by right clicking and choosing reset.

If this doesn't enable software installation, or you need more information, please seek support for the program you're trying to install extensions to.

Here : https://addons.mozilla.org/faq.php

In the forums the link to a more detailed 'how to' is : http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=383589
which get you this : http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewto...978318#1978318

The above may be unnecessary but I have occassional trouble with that site and if you do as well you may find the links useful.

Given the info I would guess kt kendall is thinking about an earlier version.

Yes, I am still running 1.0, I should have checked that first, but I assumed the tools>options would be quite similar no matter what version..
