Multiple Downloads

Have a cable connection but am unable to download more than 2 or 3 items at a time. I know there is a setting to change but have forgotten it.

I think thats a limit IE places on download limits. ive always had trouble managing more than 2 downloads at a time. Mozilla Firefox, can take a large number of downloads. not sure of the limit, but its definitely more than two!

Mozila Firefox and IE have exactly the same limits on downloads from the same site, this is not something that makes Firefox seem better, but because both of them comply with HTTP 1.1 specifications... and this is a mandated setting for "good" browsers. For HTTP 1.0 servers, IE has a 4 connection limit and for HTTP1.1 it's 2 persistent connections.

It's fairly easy to change the settings, with IE you need to know registry editting and with Firefox it's slightly different. Of course, I need to warn you that editing these values to something drastic may cause servers to deny service to you as well.
For IE:
1) Open up your registry editor (start > run > regedit)
2) Go to the key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
Internet Settings
3)Do you see the key: MaxConnectionsPerServer?
If No? then go to EDIT > NEW > DWORD value and name it MaxConnectionsPerServer
Double click on it, select Decimal and enter something like 5.
If you the MaxConnectionsPerServer is already there, then just doubleclick on it and change it to 5.
4) Do the same for the key: MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server

And just to clear any confusion about Firefox being able to give you more than 2 connections for HTTP1.1 servers, this is how to change the values if you so desire.
a) Type about:config on the address location and hit enter
b) in the filter area type in network.http you should see the values for network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server you can doubleclick on it to increase it, if you want.

Another thing that you could do is download Download Accelerator Plus (DAP) look for it on google or here: http://www.download.com/Download-Acc...ml?tag=tab_pub (by Cnet) Its a really good program and allows you to download many files at once and also keeps the speed fast, I sometimes got slow download speeds of 60 kbps, but it keeps it around 100-180 kps and sometimes faster on a DSL connection. It works really well and doesnt contain any spyware/adware or anything like that.

I am using Opera browser. It has download manager installed inside it. It i great, you can always monitor curent dload speed, files recently downloaded, and time left. Great thing.
