QuickTime Hijacked My Browser!
Ok, maybe "hijacked" isn't the right word. More like "commandeered".
Despite unchecking mpg, avi, and mp3 under QT's file types preferences, whenever I'm browsing with Firefox and I click on a link to a video or audio file (such as mpg, avi, mp3), it will begin to play it in the browser with QuickTime. I can still save the file to disk and open it with whatever program I want, but in-browser will automatically play it with QT! How do I stop it? In Firefox' download options (under download actions) those file types are set to open with the QT plugin. When I try to change them, they change right back. Any help is appreciated. |

Find the Quicktime Icon in your taskbar (The little blue Q at the bottom right corner), and open the preferences.
If it's not there, you'll have to open the Quicktime Player manually (from the Start Menu), and open the preferences (Edit -> Preferences -> Quicktime Preferences). Click the "Browser" tab, and uncheck "Play Movies Automatically". Hope that helps! |

If you aren't using iTunes or something else that *requires* Quicktime, uninstall it and install Quicktime Alternative.

However, I think I may have solved it. Through trial and error, I located the QT plugin in the firefox folder and removed it. Then in firefox options I set the file types to what I want. So far it has stayed the way I want it. So I guess problem solved! |
