Question Software for Video Compression?

I'd like to send my friends videos by emai, but even a one-minute
video can take up 24 megs.
I tried WinZipp on the .avi videos, but they were still too big to
send.

Can anyone recommend a good freeware or shareware app that tightly
compress video files so they can be emailed quickly?

Thanks, and best wishes to all!

Firstly .. what are you using to format the video itself? Are you using native RGB or YUV? Those are all bloated formats. You should first try to use another codec to compress down your AVI itself or shift to MPG. The DIVX codec is good for it, so is Angelpotion etc. with pretty much no loss in quality.

Other than that, I personally prefer Winace a whole lot better, simple cos it compresses a whole lot better, dont worry abt the person at the other end not having Winace, cos you can create an SFX.

And if it still exceeds the filesize you can work with, consider splitting into digests during compression.

As Statica said, are you using RGB or YUV? Either way, change to the Divx MPEG 4 codec which can be used to compress an AVI. Beyond that, what is your frame rate and capture size? Changing to 15fps rather than 29.97 or 30fps is a dramatic change in file size. Also, use 320x240 or smaller for your resolution.

A 320x240res 15fps 2 minute video compressed with the Divx codec should result in a file under 2Meg.
