programs in startup

gang....I really like programs like iM Tuner, Real Player, etc. but I don't want them in my startup (down by the clock)using my system resources. Even Microsoft Office XP adds something. I uncheck them from the System Configuration Utility, but I use them one time and they are back in the startup again. Is there anyway possible to get these to quit adding themselves back into startup? Which programs do I really need in startup? Where else is there for me to take them out?

You have to look in each program's preferences or options to find where to stop them from starting with Windows.

Real player/jukebox, uses a thing they call "Smart Start".
Open Realplayer, select View, Preferences, and on the General tab, select the Settings button in the StartCenter section. Disable it, and ignore the dire warnings.
