Bad IE5.5

I run IE 5.5. Tonight I ran Windows update and got the following message.

Thank You for your interest in
Windows Update
You have an older version of Internet Explorer 5 and Internet Tools. If you would like to download additional components from the Windows Update catalog, you must first upgrade to the latest version.

I thought 5.5 was almost the latest. Have I missed something and how do I get into Windows Update.

Send a message via ICQ to HackinCowboy
IE 5.5 is the latest as of now except for IE 6 Beta. Did you try repairing IE 5.5? If you go to Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs>Internet Explorer 5.5 there is an option to repair. Try running that and then try the Windows Update again.

Thanks for the reply and the information. I tried repairing IE last night but it told me that it could not be repaired because my wininet.dll and urlmon.dll were older versions. I plan to get them from my computer at work Monday and then we will see if that resolves the problem.

I got copies of the two bad files from my work machine yesterday and copied them to my home machine and it fixed the problem. Next question is how the files got corrupted back to previous versions in the first place. My best guess is that SFC replaced them with files from the installation disk when I ran it a few weeks ago. Makes sense to me! Anyhow problem is solved.
