Use of multiple browsers.
Hi Folks, How do I set up to check different browsers?
I am on SBC DSL & it funnels IE through SBC. Tried Firefox last year & it seemed to take over. Couldn't get Yahoo to get my e-mail so I deleted it. I want to experiment with Firefox, Opera & other browsers but don't understand how to use each on it's own. Any info & help will be valued. Thanks from Dummy. RevCLB

not exactly sure what you are asking.
you can install all the browsers, and just set one to the default. when you click a link, it will open in your default, but you can just open the other browsers manually to poke around. firefox probably "took over" because it was set to the default. as far as yahoo mail, i don't know why it wouldn't have worked. i check my yahoo email on there all the time craig

Thanks hobey19, I guess the default is what I don't understand.(and a gazillion other things). Does there have to be a default browser. Is it possible to have each browser run just by itself? Thanks again for your input. RevCLB

i don't think there is a way to not set a default. think of it like this:
you are on aim, and a friend sends you a link. if you don't have a browser open, it needs to open in something. unless there is something like a bootloader for browsers (ie which browser do you want to open), and i don't think there is, you will have to have a default as far as each browser running by itself, you should be fine. i am running ie7, firefox and opera right now, with ie7 being my default. when i want to use one of the others, i just open them manually and start browsing. if you have a keyboard that has shortcut keys that you don't use (my logitech has like 10), you could set up a different button for each browser craig |

Thanks hobey19, I don't understand all you said but will go & play with other browsers now. If I don't like them I can always delete them. I am a slow learner. Thanks again. RevCLB

if you let me know what you need clarification on, i would be more than happy to try.
the best thing about using multiple browsers is that you get different features in different ones. i love firefox, especially with adblock, but i am using ie7 right now, and i must say i like it a lot. it has been my experience that it runs much faster, but i miss having all of the intellitxt links being gone like they are in firefox. each browser has their strong suits, and experimenting with all of them, imo, is the best way to decide which is best for you personally craig |
