just log out of windows messenger, then delete it from your task bar and from the program short-cut, then log into instant messenger and you should be all set to go.
this has been a very common problem for many others.
you do not need the windows messenger at all.

windows messenger is the biggest crok of .... ever, go here and download the VBS script, it will remove windows messenger and should stop msn messenger from kicking you off.

Ive simply just deleted the "Messenger" folder in Program Files. that contains the Windows Messenger program files. Nothing even complained when I did that. But to play it safe, you could just move that entire folder to somewhere else (My Documents for example), incase something wants it back for the time being. Simplest method for removing it.

but doesnt that knacker up outlook express if you try to use the address book? the VBS script fixes that too, plus i dont see how navigating to a directory deleting it and possibly screwing up your computer could be easier than running 1 file, its sure longer to type
