Recently someone downloaded a program off the internet called incredimail, unsure if your aware of it but you may have seen their pop ups they are the ones with all the different smileys and emotions, anyway it attached itself to Outlook express (my bosses email prog) anyway, boss decided that icredimail was no longer wanted so the proram was uninstalled apparently using the uninstall program, now heres the problem...
my boss has an archive folder where all old emails have been copied to (they have been taken out of outlook) NONE of these file can be opened they are all specified as incredimail internet mail message, you are able to see the object/message in the thumbnail just not able to open it. if someone send an email to my boss now no matter if it is a graphic, word doc, powerpoint, or acrobat reader file etc etc the file can not be opened or view (but can be seen in the thumbnail) these files are also classed as incredimail internet mail messages for eg if you right click on a image file and select open with paint for example it will tell you it is an invalid bmp file or format is currentlynot supported this also occurs if you try to open docs that a suppose to be word docs, by selected open with word and the same with other files and programs, a solution is quite urgent as we rely on many of these files for the business and we also need access to some of the archived files, any help is most appreciated and thanks for any time taken |

Sounds like a real problem. Let's start by making sure you can see the real file extensions. Go to Control Panel/Folder Options, then the second tab and make sure "Hide extensions for known file types" is not checked. This will allow you to see the real file extensions like .eml for emails, .jpg for a picture, .doc for Word etc. Make sure the files really have those extensions. If they do have the correct extension and it still tries to start incredimail instead of the correct program, there's something wrong with the file associations (third tab in Folder Options). What extension do the old email files have ?

Glad to see it's solved although I'm at a loss why Incredimail would change those file associations. Good riddance I'd say
