What is Webhancer? It is always listed in my Ad-Aware log after a scan. I went to regedit>Find, and says its in C\Program Files\W..., yet nothing can I find in Win Explorer.
I believe it came from d/l'g various MP3 programs off the net and specifically from Audiogalaxy. Since I don't use Audiogalaxy, can I safely assume that I can delete Webhancer from my registry? There are quite a few entries and the value is "Apartment". Doesn't make sense. Carl |

Webhancer is spyware - uninstall it using add/remove programs. Don't remove it using Ad-Aware or by registry diving or you will break your connectivity. If it's not in add/remove programs, reinstall it then uninstall it.

Hi glc.
Webhancer was in the add/remove program list. I removed it and rebooted. It is still in the registry. Guess I better reinstall and remove again. If I go registry diving, do you mean that my connection to the net could be affected? Carl |

glc, this program is very stubborn. Followed all instructions on reinstall and removal. I type find in the registry and here is what I get:
The left pane has an open folder called win32. The right pane says Default----C:\Program files\webhancer\Programs\Win... At the bottom of the registry page: My Computer\HKEY_Classes_ROOT\Type Lib\{C8CB3870-CDFE-11D3-976A-00E02913A9E0}\1.0\0\win32 I don't know if any of this means any thing or not. When I do a C+A+Del, it is not running in the background. And since I tried removing it with AD-Aware before I knew what was going on, my connection has not been affected. Thanks for the help and info. Carl |

glc and mairving,
Since I'm not on dialup, I took the chance and deleted everything that had to do with Webhancer. That included the registry keys listed in Ad-Aware. I have now rid myself of the insidious program. Here is the kicker. It came with Audiogalaxy and whan it asked if I wanted it, I clicked no. Then came a spiel about how Audiogalaxy is a "free" program and how Webhancer helps to pay for it. So, say no if you want, but you'll still get it. Thanks for the links and the help fellas. You guys are part of the reason this site is invaluable. Carl |
