Angry address bar links

for awhile now ive been having problems with certain links staying in the address bar. i have IE6, but dont remember when the problem started, some time ago now. they dont appear when you click the down arrow but when you go to type in a url they appear. i would rather just have nothing appear when typing a url (which used to be the case on my computer). i frequently clean out my temporary internet files, cookies, and history and keep clean from spyware and virus. but for some reason only certain urls will stay in this box. i cant think of anything else that will work. any help would be deeply appreciated. thanks.

Hi delita. Welcome to PcMech!

Sounds like you just need to turn off the Autocomplete feature in Internet Explorer. Go to the Tools menu and select Internet Options. Then go to the Content tab and click the Autocomplete button. There are 3 things you can turn on or off in there....web addresses & urls, forms, and username/passwords. If you uncheck the boxes, it turns each feature off. Web Addresses & URLs will keep IE from trying to guess the address you're going to type it (like the problem you asked above), Forms will keep it from automatically entering things you've entered in forms like your name & street address, and username/passwords will keep IE from storing any names and passwords for forums or other site logins that you may have. After doing those, go ahead and click the Clear Forms and Clear Passwords buttons below there to clear out what's already stored on your system. Hope this helps.
