Juno? NetScape? NetZero?
Hi All,
Which would you prefer for cheap dialup service? I'm getting ready to send my sister's box back to her and was originally going to simply update Juno, her current service. I'm having doubts since I can't even download the lastest version on my broadband computer to install on hers. Plus, they charge big dollars for tech support if she needs it. Should I talk her into something else?? NetScape? NetZero? I don't know anybody with NetScape, but I know a few with NetZero and they are "happy" with it. I want to finish and get this mailed out by Saturday, so any / all input is greatly appreciated ![]() TR |

I've been recommending NetZero as a cheap dial up source to those choosing dial up in my area. All have been happy with the service and the software is light on the system.

Wow... I must be missing something
-- I just when to their site, and didn't find a download section for non-members!? I only spent a few moments, maybe I missed it, but if I didn't, how do they (and Juno) expect folks who build systems to install it??

Don't install it, that's the simple thing to do. That software is more then useless. Sign-up for an account on-line or call them, then find the dial in number and set it up in Windows.

Staren, none of those 3 providers work with a standard dialup networking connection, they all require proprietary software. Netzero and Juno are the same company and Netscape is part of AOL.
It's at the point now that you are much better off with an entry level DSL service - the price is competitive with dialup. If I *had* to deal with dialup, I'd use a "standard" service such as Earthlink or a reputable local provider, not one of the cheapies. |

I just looked at Earthlink and their standard price is $21.95. Sadly, my sister is elderly and is on a fixed income: the $9.95 she is paying now is almost a budget buster
![]() I could just bite the bullet and upgrade by dialup... I did want to, however, 1) save a little time, 2) have a backup CD of the upgraded program, 3) not tie up the phone. I could throw a NIC in there but I wonder if Juno would "see" the broadband connection and upgrade to that instead of dialup service?? Anyone know? TIA

Problem solved. I called Juno's 800 number as a new customer and they directed me to where I could log on as my sister (I explained all that to them) and do a download that way. So, I now have a D/L of Juno

Here is a list I pulled from a Google search. I have no experience with them, but somewhere you can continue your search:
http://www.freedomlist.com/find.php3...ialup_state=38 BTW, I chose Oregon. I don't actually know where you live.

Thanks for the link, (51), it's pretty interesting. Since she is not computer savy, I think I'll just go ahead and repair Juno. Thanks, though!

Two Rails if shes only going to make light use of it eg email , then she can save
the $10 and use NetZeros free service . I have an aunt on it and she complains about the ads but not enough to pay $10 to get rid of them. |

Good luck being able to use the free service during normal hours. Paying customers get priority on the dialup numbers. A friend of mine found he could only get on line reliably at 4am.

Thanks for the tips. I'll mention both the free service, and the conectivity problem. She's been on Juno for years now, so I suspect she'll stick with it.
