Internet Connection Sharing
Simple proxy server needed for a computer with modem running Win2K. And clients running Win98/2K/NT4
Just a simple download needed, so i can just open on the server. It will tell me the port it's running on, I can then enter this into the Connection Settings of the clients Thanks in advance (this is desperately needed, seems a waste to have all these machines laying around with no internet )

All you need to do is use the builtin ICS in Win2K. Open the properties of the dialup connection and share it - and set your clients to use DHCP.

Hmmmm, at the moment we have all of the computers Specifying their own IP addresses and we'd like to keep it that way. Also, if the main computer was off wouldn't this stuff up the other machines IP addresses?
And wouldn't it slow the boot time of the client machines down one hell of a lot? Thanks, |

You asked for something simple - and it's definitely free. ANY proxy is gonna require the main machine be on. DHCP clients boot OK as long as the DHCP server is running. If you need to share files with the main computer offline, use netbeui for that.
ICS supposedly works with static IP's - but its designed to be DHCP. |
