help me with this problem
I have a Dell laptop that my g-dau. uses and for the last month or so she cannot go to her credit card page after she type in her login name and password. I have it now and on some sites, that has a login, you can hold down the CTRL key and they will open. Others starts to open will holding down CTRL or not and the progress line moves a little and stops. I have turned off her Google tool bar and win. xp firewall. No help. Any idea's to fix? Thanks.
note: I disabled the wireless internet and installed dial-up. It worked fine except slow, ofcourse. Now maybe someone can help. It has to to be a security problem. Thanks. Last edited by pc_nut; 06-24-2006 at 11:35 AM. |

I would do the standard troubleshooting techniques; clear your cache, run Windows update, try an alternative browser to see if it is browser specific or computer specific. Make sure also that she hasn't installed IE7 which won't work on many banking sites.

Hi,
I have ran anti-virus, nortons trouble shooting, chatted with Dell, etc. Dell said it was a software problem which they would charge me to talk about that. It's only 2 months old. I have compared the security settings with my other Dell laptop. Today while waiting on some response, I installed IE7. I really can't tell the difference in it except the looks. I would take it off tho if I knew how. |

I doubt you can uninstall IE7.
Try downloading Mozilla Firefox as an alternative browser, if the banking sites still do not work. |

To uninstall IE7:
Quote:
From the IE7 download page. It should revert tom IE6 automatically. Then go check windows update for any IE6 updates that may have gotten lost in the shuffle.

OK, I will do that. But don't understand why I can open these sites with dial-up and not wireless cable. My other Dell laptop works fine.

the new one that is giving trouble will work fine on dial-up but not wireless. Using dial-up it will go to any site before or after signing in, but will only go tosome secured sites on wireless.

My wireless router is connected to my desktop by ethernet. Desktop also works great. It seems to me it has to be the built in mini PCI card or drivers to it. I have no driver CD from Dell with the computer, so I don't know how I would reinstall them.

I mean if you connect this SAME laptop by Ethernet - this SAME laptop has problems with wireless but not dialup, right?

yea, I have hooked it up right to the cable modem by way of ethernet, by passing the router with the same results. I can't believe Dell support wants me to pay $99 to talk to me about.

Yea, I just did.It appears to be slower than IE. I also found while downloading Firefox, that the computer want download either. I had to download it with my other laptop and burn it. It really pi$$es my off that dell want talk to me about this. I am 95 % sure it is the built-in wireless card or drivers.

It's not the wireless card or drivers if a wired connection does the same thing. At this point I'd maybe be looking at a Windows reinstall.

No, I might not have said it right. I have no problem at all when wired networked or dial-up.
