Can't send emails in Outlook

My colleague is having problem sending her messages out. Whenever she clicks to new message and type in the recipient's address, an error message appears saying "An error occurred while attempting to open the Windows Address Book. Unable to find the WAB DLL."

May I know what's this WAB DLL thing? I have reinstalled MS Office (my first attempt, but failed), did system restore (2nd attempt, also failed) and even deleted the whole contacts but it still won't work.

Any solutions? Appreciate it so much. Thanks in advance.

The machine is running Windows XP Home SP 2. I installed Microsoft Office 2000 standard which is open licence.

Hi Pam,

Thanks for the info but then I when I do a search on WAB DLL, there are many of those files that begins with WABs...I am not sure which one so I just renamed this two files; WAB to WAB1 and OUTLKWAB to OUTLOOKWAB....But the problem is still there....

So, I uninstalled MS Office 2000 and installed MS Office XP Pro and it got worst....Couldn't even open outlook personal folders. Before I installed it, I forgot to rename the WAB files back and I think I made a mistake here...

Btw, Microsoft article did not provide much info on this so I was kinda stuck....

Has this person ever used Outlook Express on this computer?

You don't really need to use WAB with Outlook since all of that is stored in your pst file.

Note: Outlook 2000 is not open license. It doesn't have Product Activation though.

Backtrack on what you've done.
Constantly switching installs just complicates the problem.
What happened when you searched for Wab32.dll ?

Nope, my colleague only uses Outlook to read & send her emails...

I have done a search on all files & folder in the C & D drive. I typed in WAB and what I got are all the WABs with different extensions...

But anyway, I managed to get it solved by doing system restore and reinstall another version, MS Office 2003.

Thanks again for all your suggestions...

Glad you got it working.
You followed, a little late I admit, a basic rule.
If you're going to install (reinstall) software to fix a problem you need to backtrack as close to the original as possible.
You are now on your way to becoming a computer geek
