I have cable modem and was running Zone Alarm untill end of last week. PC and internet was working fine Tuesday night July 31 and Wednesday morning Aug. 1 it would only open my home page. I couldn't surf to any other site, PcMechanic, Google ect. I had several messages on Zone Alarm and figured that the Code Red had things hosed. But tried my backup dialup and things were fine. Called cable co. and they weren't any help. They wanted me to delete my cookies. Didn't want to do that. Tried stopping Zone Alarm, no help. I uninstalled Zone Alarm and things are fine now. Has anyone else experienced any problems surfing while Zone Alarm was loaded.
Chas

Well, I've been running ZA for over a year without a hitch.

Ditto for me too!!
Without Zone Alarm and a cable hookup, you've left yourself wide open for bad things to happen. When you couldn't surf around, there was the chance ZA was protecting you. Carl |

I've only had trouble with ZA when the pages were using some non-secure items or either programs I had set to not access. I agree that if you were having trouble, then ZA was protecting your backdoor.

Not sure how it was protecting me as my Outlook Express was working. It was like something got hosed with my request. By that I mean when I first installed it and the first use it would ask for permission for sites. When this had me locked up my first thought was that it had lost the permissions, but when I opened the file all the green check marks were there. As stated in original post there were several msgs. that had been logged during the night and I didn't look at them close, just deleted and continued on as the msgs. dealt with my computer attempting to send outbound. I've done a virus scan with nothing found so I'll probably download it and try again.

Yeah, probably you were getting hammered through your isp because they were having a code red problem & did'nt want to admit it. My cable modem was being blown away also, there was no access on my end, just knocking on the door. By the way whose isp are you using?

My ISP is Insight@Home. Naw the problem was with Zone Alarm getting hosed. Something happened during the night. I had a lot of alerts and if I had taken the time to read them all I might have caught it. It probably wanted an authorization and I blew by it. We'll se what happens when I get it downloaded and started back up. Thanks for the replies.
