Not any more. Last one I tried got me a nastygram telling me that if I didn't download the latest software within 2 weeks, I would have my account terminated. Incidentally, Netzero is cutting the freebie back to 10 hours a month.

Amazing business model they have. How is giving away unlimited usage, or 40 hours or whatever of usage, any different from giving away 10 hours?

They don't make a profit either way, even if they strip it down to 1 minute of free access it's still no profit.

Why prolong the inevitable NetZero, just open it up and let people suck ya dry, it's not like the company will be around next year anyways .

My brother had a program that forced the banner to the back, but now he switched to DLS and doesn't remember what it was called or where he got it...

Hmmmm...... The last time I asked this question, several members jumped down my throat and M.A.Dockter locked my thread. old thread What's up with that? Was it just because I used the dreaded "C" word or what?

Anyway LawyerRon, I know a few people who are still successfully using an older version of the Netzero Port. You know, the one where you could rename the Jpeg.dll file in the bin folder, and create an empty dummy file with the correct name to loose the banner.

It still works fine, and I can fix you up with that older version if you want it, but I wonder if it's worth the effort for 10/month?

Currently I'm trying out AdKiller. It's $15 Shareware that seems to do a pretty good job. I don't know if it works on NetZero. It does run as a TSR.

From FAQ at http://www.adkiller.com/instruct.php

What does it do?

AdKiller removes ads from web pages in order to speed up your browsing. It does this by acting as a proxy server, replacing ads with a transparent image as pages are downloaded. This speeds up your browsing because ad images are never downloaded. Only the actual content of the page (which is most likely what you are interested in) is downloaded. Keep in mind that image files (including ads) are much larger than the text files that make up a page. Added to this is the fact that ads are frequently downloaded from a separate address than the one that you are looking at. This means that your computer must look up extra addresses, make the connections and download these annoying ads. With AdKiller, this extra work is eliminated

NetZero is (and probably always has been) the one free internet service provider that has been very aware of programs that kill or hide their ad banner. I have been kicked off NetZero numerous times for trying to do some such to their ad banners.

I had a program that hid banners and worked very well. It worked for all, except NetZero. When used with NetZero, it would give a message "You can RUN, but you can't HIDE!" Then log me off!

In the early days, you could tamper with a file to eliminate the banner. But then the banner became something like an active cookie. If they didn't see it, you were kaput!

In the beginning, when they just had a small banner, I actually clicked on their ads a lot. But I quit using them when their banner was bigger than the rest of the screen!
