My buddy has a Compaq computer. He has a cable modem so he's always online. He says he can only get his mail from Outlook Express once. If he tries more than once it won't work. He has to reboot the computer to get it to go again.

My best bet is he is not clicking on the "Send Receive" button. Also have him verify the "check for new mail" setting under "tools/options" and set the time to a lesser value.

We went through all his settings in IE and OE and all seem to be normal. We did lower "check mail" from 30 min to 5 min.

problem solved
He had the hard drive set to turn off after an hour of inactivity. Changed it to "never" and fixed the problem.
