Which Browser ?
Hi everyone, I have recently started to have a problem with my hard drive and I think its just from years of junk from leftover programs and it looks like I will have to reformat. My question is I have been using Netscape 7.1 for years because of the mail client feature and I know the newer versions don't offer this. I have heard firefox does but would like some opinions on the best browser with the same options.
Also is there anyway to save all my bookmarks and and e-mails I have downloaded into Netscape? As you can see I'm not to familiar with how this works. Thanks - Paul |

Netscape is very bloated much like driving a full dump truck. Firefox is leaner and is more the sports car version. Thunderbird is the mail version that has been stripped out as a separate product.

Thanks for the reply, so the way I understand it I would need Firefox for the browser and Thunderbird for the mail.
Thanks again - Paul |

There are certainly other choices of email and browsers out there but if you are used to Netscape, FF and TBird will be easier o pick up. You can also export your Bookmarks in Netscape and import then to FF. |

You could also use mozilla which has mail and browser built in. Actually, mozilla is based on netscape so you might feel more familiar with that.
Opera also has a mail client built in which is very good.

Or you could just stick with Netscape 7.1.
It is still available at Netscape's site.

Thanks for all the input everyone, I suppose I could just stick with the old Netscape but I thought maybe the newer browers might have an advantage.

This is what you want:
http://www.mozilla.org/projects/seamonkey/ Just to give you the history, in the beginning there was netscape; netscape was acquired by aol and later dumped when aol went to IE; aol open sourced the netscape code which was picked up by the mozilla project; the mozilla project drastically reworked and improved the netscape code, basically rewriting netscape from the ground up and came out with modern a browser with a built in email client like the original netscape that was called mozilla; times were changing and people wanted a more streamlined browser so the mozilla foundation split the mozilla browser suite into two projects, firefox for the browser and thunderbird for an email client. The old code for the mozilla browser was still around and open source so a group of developers took the code and continued working on the full mozilla browser under the name seamonkey which is where things stand today. I would definitely recommend going with seamonkey over netscape 7.1, a truly ancient appllication which was not only pretty buggy but is undoubtedly pretty unsecure. Seamonkey is a full application suite with a built in email client like netscape but it is much nicer than the old netscape. |

Try Avant Browser, it has a very good built in pop up blocker. It is based on IE with tabbed windows.
