Hung up mouse

When using Internet Explorer, my mouse hangs up alot. The mouse is clean, I drag across the screen and it will just stop. After anywhere from 2 - 10 seconds, I will be able to use it again.

I am using an old system but it has been very reliable. I defrag regularly, use spybot s&d, Ad-aware, spyware blaster, and zone alarm firewall. My processor is an 1700+ AMD XP. I have 3 256Kb RAM sticks and an 80 Gb HD. I'm using Win2k.

What can I do to help its performance. It is so bad that I can barely use the computer.

Does deleting your temp internet files get the mouse working right again?

I tried that, but I honestly think it was actually a mouse problem. I wouldn't have believed it, but I tried a different mouse I had and it works fine.
