Ubuntu Web Server Not Accessible
Hello,
I have set up an Ubuntu 6.06 web server at my home, which sits behind a Netgear router. I logged into the router and set up port forwarding to the web server (port 80). However, it appears that the web server can only be accessed from within my home network. It times out when someone attempts to access it externally. I thought that maybe my ISP blocks port 80, but I called them and they assured me that they do not. I was told in another forum to install nmap and run nmap -sT localhost from the command line to see the status of the port. After running that command, it showed that port 80 is open. So, I am at a loss as far as what to do next. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, lugos |

How are you trying to access it externally? You have to use your real IP, not the private IP, or use a dynamic DNS service.

I'm trying to access it using the domain name I registered with yahoo, and I set up an account at www.zoneedit.com. The name servers are pointing to the correct DNS servers provided by zoneedit. I installed ddclient on my web server, and the IP address is successfully being updated as the IP address changes. But for some reason it is not accessible from outside of my little home network. Someone suggested that I put the local IP on the DMZ through the router.
I guess I should have provided this information in my first post. |

What happens when you try to access http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (your real IP address)?
