Exclamation Filtering Gmails Groups to get a label

I have a group in gmail, and whenever i recieve a message from a member of this group, i want to label it, automatically. Do i do this with a filter? Can i type the "From" section of the filter with the group. IE "From: ". Does that work? What works?

Yes you can do what you are explaining. Look at the Settings > Filters > Create New Filter option and it should be pretty obvious how to set up your labels to handle this situation.

Just add the filter for whatever the "From" address of this group mailing list is.

You are probably going to have to create filters for each individual in the group. I don't think Gmail will see that a certain 'From' address is a member of an address book group and thus put the label on. I tried doing that and it didn't work.

Or you can add partials, for example:

From: @domain.com
Subject: Mailing List Name
Has the words: Great... snakes on crack. (or whatever text the list email has)

I think he is talking about a Gmail group, though, not some kind of listserv group. If it was the latter, then yes, doing partial matches on standard footer information would work, for example. But if it is just a distribution group set up in Gmail, there won't be a mailing list name or appended footer.

Im talking about a group of contacts... is there no way to specify this group without having to type out ever contact to be filtered? There are 48 contacts in this group, if one of them emails me, i want it to be auto-labeled, etc. What do i type in the "from" area, so that it specifies im talking about a group

Oh, in that case, Gonzo is right. Unfortunately I think you will have to add everyone individually.
