Firefox crashes-'XPCOM- memory not readable'
This is on a late model sony laptop with WXP and 512 Mb ram.
Frequent crashes (browser only) while in Firefox. Error msg something like " XPCOM: instructions at 0x0122693e referencing memory at 123456 could not be read." Ran avg/spybot/adaware etc.in safe mode= nothing. Any ideas ? Uninstall-reinstall the browser? Horrors ! go back to IE ? Thanks ! |

I would do an uninstall/install first. If that doesn't fix it you might be better off asking over at the FF Forums.

Thanks - I cleaned some unrequested programs out ( shopping searchbars etc) and deselected lots in start up via msconfig and also took the easy way out and deleted FF and went to IE.
Wireless was also picking up neighbours routers and getting weak signal so I had to move the required one to the top of the list. They all contributed to the problem. We'll watch it and see how it goes. It really needs a good clean out and tidy up but its not mine. Cheers. |

EDIT: Got the CD with memtest86+ working- ( burn as 'image').Memory is Ok.
She is going to save needed stuff and we will do a long overdue restore with the SONY restore CD. Thanks to all . glc- Can't get the .bin or the .iso DVD file of Memtest86+ to boot up into the program. All I get is some Caldera (DOS?) giving me an A:\ prompt. {The floppy works fine,( tried it on another machine) but there is no floppy drive on the laptop in question.} FF is uninstalled- Its running IE Frequently finding "work offline" checked in the browser. I deselect it but after a few minutes its checked again. Whats that coming from ? Malware ? Thanks! Last edited by Parangles; 09-14-2006 at 04:49 PM. |
