I just went to service this 'dial up to ISP', win98SE stand alone pc. It happens that the user load some 'other' language translation software, kinder of translate all the english to other language. And was out of hand, becomes the sort of xyzxx stuffs or unreadable. I uninstall it , still could not convert them to English. Then I thought of it, wouldn't it be nice the OS could be reload, without going thru the fdisk, format and reinstalling processess. Any one has the 'key' to this problem ?, I was actually thinking something like , meddling with the keys and stuffs like that ? Any cues ? or clues ?

I reloaded my windows over itself once. Best I remember I put the CD in and did Start, Run and put in E:WIN98/setup. E being my CD-ROM. I believe I needed the product key. I had the sleve it came in so that was no problem. If you don't have it, I believe it can be found by doing Start, Run, Regedit and click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINES\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version

Open Explorer, browse to c:\windows and rename win.com to win.bak then reinstall windows right over top of itself. Be sure to install to c:\windows, and not c:\windows.000

Thanks ! I need the solution badly, real bad. Almost helpless, if I can't even read what's on the screen, a computer tech nightmare !
BTW, reboot, can I do the same if the OS is Window ME as well ??? moonlight burner |
