Right button on your desktop and from the menu choose properties.
Click on the tab at the top that says "Apperance".
Where it says "Font Size" choose "Normal" from the drop down box.
Then click "OK".

As for the webpages Im not so sure. Is there any content in the websites or are they just blank?

I have looked at all the options in Firefox and I can't find anything to disable the background images/colour.

If the font problem is in the browser then just hold down CTRL and use the mouse scroll wheel to make the text larger and smaller...let go of CTRL when its the size you want.

In firefox you could try:

Click on "View" at the top of the screen.
Hover over "Page Style".
Make sure the black dot is beside "Basic Page Style".

IE is controlled from Internet Options, Advanced. Common display options are controlled from Display.

Only thing I can think of is:
Control Panel -> Internet Options.
Click on the "Advanced" tab at the top.
Press the "Restore Defaults" button.
Press "ok".
