I have seen some questions on other forums asking how to download the full version to your own computer for future installations.
Here is how to do it. Run the setup file, choose 'Custom Installation' then click on the 'Advanced' button. Next put a check in the box for the full download to your computer for future installation. This will grey out all of the options and download the full version to your computer.

Also, after downloading the full version as per above, you will need to get rid if the iesetup.exe file, it's about 426k. If you do not get rid of this file, when you try to download the next update or service pak you will get a message stating that a previous install was not completed. Getting rid of this file will not preclude you from reinstalling the full version from your computer.

I'm looking at the IE 6 page on the Microsoft site (BTW, the link to the page in the first post doesn't work anymore) and it says IE 6 doesn't support Netscape plugins. Does that means that RealPlayer won't work? Also, I heard IE 6 allows you to block popup ads, is that true?

Real Player should work right along with most of the other multimedia programs.

Thanks for the link morriswindgate, I just downloaded and installed it. At first I only noticed the new icons for IE and a few other cosmetic changes (locked toobars, etc.) But there are a lot of new features in regards to cookie control and privacy and new options under the advanced tab. One thing I really like is my ability to choose which sites I want to allow to use cookies on my computer. As I'm posting this I see a little notification icon in the IE status bar, when I click it, it tells me that it has blocked the pop-up banner ad (the "dating" one we so hate) because it was not an site authorized by me. So far it's great.

I downloaded and installed IE 6.0 last night and Ok I like it - but when comparing wiht the BETA version I think Microsoft should stay with beta - the release shows again that they have meesed up a good browser...
1.Outlook Exprees - did since I installed Win2k alway automatically open when I clicked on a weblink now the link will be executed but I have to go and open up the IE to see (clicking on the ICON besides the TRAY)to see the Site 2.It will take quite a lot of fine Tuning and believe me this IE version will make the guys on PCMECHS a lot of work because of it's overloaded functions 3.when Secutity is not adjusted then it will show a Information this and that bla bla and there is a checkbox to disble the information - this check box unchecked for tno to shwo next time - it still comes up unless I adjusted the security settings in privacy.! 4.Speed is definately SLOWER than the beta version.! still testing there wil be more to come.. edit after playing with the settings of OE but leaving them unchanged I have to revise my statement in #1. OE (I don't like the new color of the splash screen - looks to much XP)will open up IE window in full if this is the first IE Window to open at the given time - with this I mean it IE hasnt been opened yet. But when opening clicking on a second link in OE then it will open up another IE window but minimized instead of Killing (beta and all 5.5 and before version)the already open window - in prior version someone had to open up a BLANK IE window and minimize the "at the moment working IE window" that OE wouldn't kill the website already open - so that's why I can say Microsoft in that particular part mde a BIG improvement.. Just when I started out I didn't try this first the way I just did a few minute ago - So therefore my #1 clause can be disgarded.. This information Screen of the privacy just came back again forcing me to click OK again - even I unchecked the check box for the thenth time and did change the privacy settings - got to take a closer look at this - will post back on that matter .. One by One

I was really liking IE6 until I started having a problem with my Favorites. If I have two instaces of IE open and I click on a site from my Links toolbar on one browser it will load the page in the other browser, which is very annoying. Can anyone else verify this?

May you have to adjust the Settings in TOOLS > Internet otpions > ADVANCED and if this doesn't help then try to Right click on the link ans select OPEN in NEW WINDOW or the third way is to minimize the already open Browser.
HTH I still cant get figured out this always upcoming info screen with the ONE WAY icon even clicked at least 20 times NOT TO SHOW AGAIN it still comes up... |

I had have IE5.5 beta to final and I had IE6.0 Beta to the final since last night - NOT talking about the final 6.0 but the BETA was by far the fastest Browser I ever used here - compare to the size it has - never had any problems..
I have Netscrap 6.0 since it's early beta release and also upgraded to 6.01 the final - there is only one thing to say - It's the BUG in itself and FAAAAR TOOOOO SLOOOOOOOOW.! |

I just replicated the bug on another system. Here's how it works:

Create a new folder in C:\Windows\Favorites\Links.
Add a site to the folder.
In IE go to View->Toolbars and select Links.
Move the Links toolbar to a place where you can see it (next to buttons or menu).
Open two new instanced of IE, set focus on the second one and click on the folder in the Links toolbar, and then click on the site.
It should incorrectly load the page in the first browser.
I tried disabled the "Open shortcut in new window" in advanced option but it doens't do anything. I hope they fix this soon, I have all my news and forum shortcuts on the Links bar. |

On Screensavers last night they were talking about losing Java script support in IE6. Have any of you experienced problems surfing and Java script?

I just did STEP BY STEP what you supposed and the Browser would load the link in the second opened - the one which had focus at the time..so it could be eventually a setting on your IE which may need to be changed.. here it is working without problems

Confused,
No problems. Best part is no pop-ups and don't have to use a third party program. Security settings give more options also. I'm really happy with this browser. ![]() Carl |

Thanks for reply Carl. I ordered the CD yesterday and then last night the Screensavers (TechTV) were talking about loss of Java support and I was wondering if I had messed up. CD was free but shipping was $10.00. Wonder what they meant on the show?

favorites bug
Thanks for checking Hpro. I just followed the exact same steps on all three of my systems, one with a fresh install of Win2K and IE6 and the other two with Win98SE and IE5.5 to 6 upgrade, all did the exact same thing. So, it's either a bug or all my computers have one IE setting that causes this. I'll have to look around the options more.

May I should State that this I tested was on Win2k - and that this Win2k HAS NO SERVICE PACKS installed by any means and is the first released verion - but all critical updates have been done. Then also this win2k is in any means set without using all the desktop enhancements...and also the Folder View in explorer is set to Classic. hope this may helps.. Got to get my kids to school will be back

Carl, you've got DSL DSL DSL - everything is fast for you
![]() Tell you what - I'll crank up the multilink and download it tonight while watching an old John Wayne movie. Haven't researched it, but what I should do with the IE 5.5, or will the "new" overwrite it in all the right places? If wifey's Gateway starts crashing afterwards, I'll hear about it

Sarge,
IE 6.0 overwrites in all the right places. The first thing you will notice is the new cookie security with options. If it crashes wifey's Gateway, tell her its my fault, and she can pop me between the eyes at the Dallas-FT Worth airport Friday. ![]() Carl |

My impressions of IE6.0
First of all, I LIKE IT! Most everything works and those that don't are probably my fault. Funny tho, Freecell on my work computer quit working, but was not affected on my home computer. Anybody know what might have caused that?
I like the privacy options but I still get popups. How do I set it to get rid of them? I can't see that it is faster than 5.5. My harddrive works more now than with 5.5. I think it is a worthwhile upgrade but I have to get the kinks out. I'm sure all my problems are just some settings somewhere.
